Aaron, I stand corrected. Apparently they changed the law after Frank Murkowski appointed his daughter in 2002.

Well, anyway, it’s so difficult to fathom what this country’s politics will be like in four years. The country is so different now from what it was the last time a Democrat was president — and certainly since the last time the Dems controlled the presidency and both houses of Congress. Whoever runs against Obama in 2012, they’ll have to grapple with what happens between now and then, and the country is certainly hungry for some big changes. Like Lee, I’m emotionally exhausted from this election, but the next two years will be an extraordinary time in American politics! So we’d better rest up and then rejoin the fray!

I think the most she can do is call a special election – Alaska is one of only a couple states where the governor does not directly appoint a replacement, I believe.

I don’t think Sarah Palin starts running until Thursday. Seriously thought I think she’ll appoint herself after Stevens resigns. Then Senator Palin will run in 2012.
